Who is Donatella Di Pietrantonio?
Donatella Di Pietrantonio is one writer from Abruzzo, one of the most original voices of the immense Italian literary panorama.
Surely, one of her strengths, in addition to her talent in writing, is to have another job at the same time, which allows her to constantly keep her feet on the ground.
Born in Arsita, in the province of Teramo, in 1962, Di Pietrantonio is in fact also one pediatric dentist.
In 1986 he moved to L’Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo, where he graduated in Dentistry and shortly after he moved, to practice his profession, in the province of Pescara, where he still resides.
Her career in the world dand the books began in 2011 and from that moment on many many important doors opened to her, which allowed her to publish her writings with Einaudi and get numerous awards.
Who is Donatella Di Pietrantonio: publications
The first book of the writer Di Pietrantonio is entitled My mother is a river, released in 2011. In the same year he also publishes a story for the magazine Granta Italy by Rizzoli, The scar.
Two years later the second novel, My beautiful. Inspired by the 2009 earthquake in L’Aquila, it speaks of mourning, loss, but above all of rebirth and newfound confidence in life. With this novel, the author is nominated for the Strega Prize and won, in 2014, the Brancati Award. Furthermore, Einaudi decides to reprint the volume in 2018.
The big leap, for Donatella Di Pietrantonio, takes place in 2017, when, with the important publishing house Einaudi, public The Arminuta. The novel, whose title is a dialect word that means return, tells the story of a teenager who is sent back to her family of origin after her childhood spends in another family, which she believed to be hers. The book won the Alassio Centrolibri Award – an author for Europe, the Naples Award and the Campiello Award. In 2019, one was drawn theathral show created and produced by the Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo.
Finally, in 2020, he publishes his latest creation, Borgo Sud, with which he ranks in the five finalists of the 2021 Strega Prize.

With Borgo Sud, Donatella Di Pietrantonio is among the five finalists of the Witch Prize 2021.
For the occasion, 600 individuals and collective votes cast their vote online, out of 600 entitled. In addition to the 400 Friends of Sunday, in fact, there are 240 votes expressed by Italian and foreign scholars and translators chosen by 30 Italian cultural institutes abroad, 20 strong reader votes chosen by independent libraries and collective votes given by schools, universities and reading groups.
The five finalists of the 2021 Strega Prize are therefore: Emanuele Trevi with Two lives (256 votes), Edith Bruck with Lost Bread (221 votes), Donatella Di Pietrantonio with Borgo Sud (220 votes), Giulia Caminito with The lake water is never sweet (215 votes), Andrea Bajani with The book of houses (203 votes).
