After 8 years of absence, the prodigal serial killer returns and fans of the charming executioner Dexter couldn’t be more excited! The return of the series was already announced in October 2020, with a promise to fans that Michael C.
Hall would have re-assumed the role of Dexter for another 10 episodes scheduled for autumn 2021. Now we are talking about nothing but Dexter 9 and when it comes out.
Dexter is such a special series, both for the sequel and the millions of fans, but also for the fame. The series, in fact, gave the turning point that our production needed, guaranteeing us a place on the map many years ago. We would only revisit the character if we found an alternative so creative that it would be really worth it.

The great return of Dexter after years: Dexter 9 when it comes out
The original series, which aired from 2006 to 2013, featured Dexter, by day, as part of the Miami Police Department and by night as a bounty hunter. The series had a fantastic debut, with a lot of following but then losing its charm and interest. The season finale received insults from both critics and audiences.
Hall himself stated that he did not like the finale, where Dexter faked his death and became an Oregon lumberjack.
The story left viewers with a bad taste in their mouths and hoping that sooner or later there would be a sequel that would offer a better ending.

These new 10 episodes will resume 10 years after the event that took place during the season finale. Dexter will have moved to a fictionalized version of New York called Iron Lake. According to the teaser and the official Twitter account, the previous forensic will now work in a shop called Fred’s Fish & Game, under the name of Jim Lindsay.
Another spoiler hints at the involvement of Dexter’s son Harrison this season. Dexter’s son, born during the fourth season, will now be a teenager who learns of his father’s dark past. Plot can always be guessed on Dexter’s Twitter account, where the following tweet was published in June 2021:

The details of the story are not known to us yet, but Hall has promised fans that this revival will be completely different from the original series. Indeed, Clyde Phillips as well as the original screenwriter who put so much enthusiasm into his ending before it was discussed, is now working on a new version.

As far as I can tell, without giving too much away about the plot, as you can imagine given where we left off, his life is now completely recontextualized. Now he lives in a different city and is surrounded by new people.
The cast, new entry and returns
Apart from the protagonist, Dexter, who remains played by Hall, we will have some new entries. There is to join the team Clyde Phillips, who will take on the role of Kurt Cardwell, Dexter’s archenemy and “unofficial mayor” of Iron Lake. According to the character description, Kurt follows the American dream and goes from driving drilling rigs, just like his father, to owning several tractors. He is also the owner of the town’s tractor shop. A prominent man, generous and loved by all, he is a real man of the people. Two other newcomers are Jamie Chung, who will play a Los Angeles crime podcaster, and Julia Jones as the first Native American to be Chief of Police at Iron Lake. Alano Miller will also be part of the Iron Lake police force.
Returns from beyond
In addition, John Lithgow will return, also in the role of Trinity Killer who was killed by Dexter himself in the fourth season. Therefore, his entry on the scene will be interesting.
Another return from the afterlife is that of Dexter’s sister Debra, who was killed during the eighth season. It is not yet known whether it will return in flesh and bone or in the form of a ghost or imaginary flashbacks.
Dexter 9 when it comes out
