In the workshop, Verrocchio commissioned portraits and drawings from the students to make them practice drawing. Many of these were done thanks to models who posed for hours while the artists portrayed them. It is in this real scene of the past that fiction is woven, and the role of Caterina da Cremona takes over as a model. Bernabei testifies that the character of Catherine was built starting from some sketches drawn by Leonardo and called The Scapigliata.
