They allow you to go from a bob, perhaps not very thick, to a long and full-bodied hair in a few hours: they are the hair extensions. But not all of them are the same in duration, quality and cost. If you are thinking about it, find out what you need to know!
It’s easy to say hair extensions, only to find yourself with badly fixed locks, damaged hair and an irritated scalp. Still, if you turn to salons they use quality extensions, the effect is definitely overwhelming!
The idea of being able to pass by a short cut to a long one and voluminous is tempting to many, especially if you think that it can be obtained in about a couple of hours. But in order to avoid unpleasant surprises, which can hardly be remedied alone, let’s try to better understand “materia extension”: what it is, how they apply, what types and costs.
What are extensions
Hair extensions allow you to thicken sparse hair and / or lengthen short hair. It is about “artificial integrations” to your hair that blends very well with it. Unlike wigs, extensions do not have the function of creating a “fictitious” hairstyle on the head, but of thickening or lengthening the hair already present. If applied well, no one notices the trick.
Their material? The extensions can be made or with real hair humans or with synthetic fibers very natural looking.

How hair extensions are applied
Exist different application techniques hair extensions. The first is the attachment of extensions at the base of the hair through keratin. Aesthetically, this technique has the best – and most lasting, up to 5 months – possible result. However, too strong fixing glues can damage real hair and cause irritation or allergies to the skin.
The second technique, called Brazilian, consists in‘tie the extension strands to those of real hair. The result of this technique is appreciable, but the duration in time is limited to about three months.
The third technique, called African, consists of creating parallel braids with your own hair, which they literally come to sewn the extension strands. This technique is the fastest ever, but the effect of real hair regrowth is quite evident.
Other quicker, less invasive and do-it-yourself techniques allow you to fix bands of hair already woven with clips or double-sided tape which is often biomedical. With this type of extension you can give free rein to your creativity in changing the length or other aspects of the hairstyle at will whenever you want, even just for an evening.
How to take care of hair extensions
Hair with extensions requires more attention. You don’t have to change shampoo, but you will need to wash your hair at least twice a week (not upside down or knots will form) and make a mask at least once every seven days.
To avoid knots do not forget to brush your hair often with the specific brush for extensions, made up of boar bristles and nylon teeth. Once a month it is also recommended to go back to the hairdresser to remove the hair that has become entangled in the keratin.
How much do hair extensions cost?
There is no fixed price for extensions. Everything varies from the manufacturer, the color, whether they are wavy or smooth and the hairdresser chosen.
However, we can estimate a price that goes from 3 to 5 euros for a single lock; usually the price of the application is already included. The next time you go to hang them up, you will only be asked for the price of the labor.
The number of extensions that are usually applied varies from 80 to 100 locks. This way the filling will be complete and the hair will be lengthened without noticing the difference. The price may therefore vary from 300 to 500 euros and beyond.
Clip-on extensions or extensions to be attached with double-sided tape, are obviously less expensive and go away from about 30 euros.
