It is a completely Italian production, the new tv series produced by Netflix titled Zero: here is the plot and the cast. Eight episodes to tell the story of a modern black-skinned hero, no longer an immigrant, but a symbol of a second generation born in Italy and, as such, completely Italian.
Zero: the new series from Netflix
On April 21, the new all-Italian Netflix series was released: Zero. Born from the idea of Antonio Dikele Distefano, 28 year old from Busto Arstizio, touches on the important issues ofimmigration andacceptance of black boys in Italy.
In the background is the southern outskirts of Milan, in which the events of Omar, the protagonist, a boy of the second generation, come to life. The metropolis is not just a side dish, but it is the main place where the life of those children who are no longer immigrants, but speak perfectly with a Milanese accent, takes place.
Another highlight of the series? The music. The soundtrack, Zero, is in fact the work of Mahmood. In the episodes, pieces by Madame, Emis Killa, Alborosie and Marracash are also heard.
The plot
The protagonist of the new Netflix series is Omar, who lives in the Milanese suburbs and to survive he darted through the city streets carrying out the profession of rider. He lives with his dad and little sister, loves manga and is very reserved. An existence, his, on the margins, as the boy feels invisible and misunderstood, until it truly becomes invisible.
From the boy who delivers pizzas with his bicycle, Omar becomes a modern hero, which he wishes to make his power available to the neighborhood in which he lives, defending it from dangers. And in this situation, Sharif, Inno, Momo, Sara and Anna come together.
The cast
The role of Omar is played by the rookie Joseph Dave Seke. In his first experience as an actor, he was chosen after responding to a selection video on the recommendation of a friend.
Beatrice Grannò, 27-year-old television and film actress, plays Anna, daughter of the bourgeoisie, who only when she meets Omar can she be fully herself.
Haroun Fall has the role of Sharif. A boy of Nigerian origins, he is strongly committed to defending the neighborhood from the threats of those who want to make the inhabitants escape.
Then, there is Momo, whose role went to Richard Dylan Magon, son of immigrants in Sicily, known in the music industry thanks to his participation in The Voice in 2014. Momo is a little bit the fulcrum of the group, that glue that manages to maintain the union thanks to a smile and cheerfulness.
Model Madior Fall plays Inno. It is a boy with a great passion for football. Initially he doesn’t trust Zero, but then he joins the group.
Finally, there is Sara, which has the face of Daniela Scattolin. She has a car, a job and she is the true leader of the group. Scattolin already has a solid career behind her, including a role in Checco Zalone’s Tolo Tolo.
It is therefore a variegated and heterogeneous cast, made up of newcomers and leading actors, who together have been able to create a series that will certainly become a cult.
