The past in prison and in the world of rap, private life and all the curiosities about the debut actor Giuseppe Dave Seke, protagonist of the Netflix TV series Zero in which he plays the role of the young superhero Omar.
Giuseppe Dave Seke: who is he
Joseph Dave Seke was born on 12 October 1995 in a small village a few kilometers from Padua, Pontevigodarzere. Here he spent his childhood and adolescence with his Congolese parents and his younger siblings. His is a difficult story, of suburban life between drug dealing and robberies. In 2015 the young man was in fact sentenced to two years in prison and house arrest for an attempted robbery.
A dark past, from which Joseph was quick to redeem himself.
His redemption began first with music. He became passionate about rap and began composing his bars and rhythm under the pseudonym of DDrugz. From this experience he learned a lot and made a lot of acquaintances, creating a circle of trusted friends around him. Just one of these friends, as well as his producer Wairaki De La Cruz, casually directed him towards an acting career.
In fact, his friend sent him a link to the post published by Antonio Dikele Distefano in which expert and novice actors were sought for the auditions of a new TV series. At first Joseph did not want to try, he was not convinced and did not believe in himself. After much hesitation he sent his video ed was called for an audition in Milan. From there his life changed completely, as he himself states in an Instagram post:
Until last year I was a warehouse worker, I wanted to change my life, but I never imagined it could change up to this point.
The role of Omar in the TV series ‘Zero’
Joseph Dave Seke’s audition is successful and he is hired as leading actor in the Netflix TV series Zero, distributed starting from 21 April 2021. In the series the actor, in his first experience in the sector, plays the role of a young ‘superhero’ named Omar. The tv series it was distributed in 190 countries all over the world and has been very successful in Italy. Alongside Giuseppe Dave Seke there are the actors, also almost all newcomers, Beatrice Grannò, Haroun Fall, Madior Fall, Daniela Scattolin and Richard Dylan Magon.
The story of Omar and his friends is set in the Milanese suburbs and is taken from a book by Antonio Dikele Distefano. The author briefly described the values that the TV series wants to convey in a post on his Instagram profile:
With this series we didn’t want to tell the life of a predestined superhero, but that of a boy who is forced to become one. Zero is the story of those who learn to accept their diversity. A diversity beyond any aesthetic trait, like the one we hide every day we leave the front door. Zero is the story of those who learn that often the most important things that will save us are precisely those that we had kept invisible.
