Who is Giuseppe Di Tommaso

Giuseppe Di Tommaso is a Rai Uno journalist, correspondent of the program “La vita in direct”. Originally from Tursi, in the province of Matera, he is 48 years old and has been working for Rai since 1998.

In its long career he also dealt with foreign news, so much so that in 2008 he was sent to refugee camps in the Middle East. Over the years, again for Rai, he has taken part in “Lineablu”, “Uno morning summer”, “The friends of Saturday” and “Uno morning magazine”.

Despite the many services made over the years, certainly the emotion that will always bring with it is that of discovery of Nicola Tanturli.

Fortunately, a story with a happy ending, which owes its happy ending to the journalist of the Rai Uno program “Live Life”, Giuseppe Di Tommaso, that has found again at the bottom of an escarpment, a few kilometers from home, the little one Nicola Tanturli.

In the night between 21 and 22 June 2021, the child, less than 2 years old, was removed from his home of Palazzuolo sul Senio. The parents had never found him in his cot and from that moment on the search for it had started as soon as possible. The family lives in a very isolated area, where the internet does not work and even the cellular signal reaches hardly. Civil Defense, Alpine Rescue, Carabinieri and Fire Brigade had moved to look for Nicola.

In the morning of June 23rd, the journalist Of Tommaso he was on his way to the scene of the disappearance to make a report for “La Vita live”. He told how during the drive, a few kilometers from the Tanturli’s home, he felt unwell and needed to get out of the car he was in. From the bottom of an escarpment he heard moans. In an interview he said:

At one point, when I was in the woods, I heard a moan coming from an escarpment of 300, 400 meters. I went over and started yelling Nicola’s name. I heard a voice scream “mom”. Children, as you know, always repeat the words of grown-ups, so I too have begun to repeat “mom”. And he repeated with me. I tried to go down into the bush to understand if it was just my suggestion, until I saw Nicola 70 meters from me. At that moment a Carabinieri car was passing by, so I went back upstairs to stop them ”.

The emotion of the discovery

Initially no one had believed Tanturli’s words, thinking that the origin of the noise could be a roe deer. The area had in fact already been the subject of research, but it was only limited to driving along the road. For Of Tommaso, having found Nicola, it was a great emotion.

We got off and, together with the child, we went up the slope “. When I picked up Nicola it was an immense, indescribable emotion. He was calm, he only had scratches on his body. He smiled at me and repeated the word “mom” once again.
