Unfortunately it is a rather common condition for women. It affects 2-5% of women between the ages of 35 and 55 although it can also affect younger or older women. Treatment is typically a mix of medications, exercise, and behavioral therapies. Symptoms also include muscle stiffness and difficulty concentrating, but also cramps, headaches, digestive disorders, bloating, sexual dysfunction and depression. “Currently there are no drugs with fibromyalgia indication in Italy. All drugs are started with a very low dosage which is very slowly corrected and also work in combination. Conversely, the Food and Drug Administration has approved milnacipran, duloxetine and pregabalin with indications for fibromyalgia ”.
In practice, central muscle relaxants, antidepressants and painkillers such as tramadol, tanpentadol, paracetamol are used. Drugs aside, disciplines such as gyrotonic, tai chi, pilates with machines, yoga are perfect for relieving symptoms.
